CYPRUS ELITE CREW RUNS NICOSIA
Starting and finishing at Fikardou village, the <<CYPRUS ELITE CREW RUNS NICOSIA RUN>> is the first Trail Run in Nicosia District mountains.
This is an exceptionally lovely trail race through the beautiful Nicosia mountains, being held at the beginning of summer when the fields are a blaze of colour and sunshine is virtually guaranteed. Maximum elevation gain, the route takes runners to some of the remotest areas of Cyprus.
Two races to choose from — 11km and 4km.
11km and 400m elevation Gain. Climbing up and down between rocks and open landscapes, the route will allow you to view and push towards every next destination and look back on what you have achieved, every step of the way.
There will be only one refreshing station in each race exactly in the middle.

Fikardou Kalo Chorio Klirou 11km
Pre-race briefing: 5:00pm
Where: Fikardou Village
Compulsory gear: Reusable water bottle with capacity of 500ml/hydration pack, cellphone.
It is very important to carry sufficient water with you – on the rocky, steep terrain of mountain trails, a seemingly short distance between refreshment stations could take longer than expected.
Recommended stuff: whistle, warm top for change of weather, copy of route, emergency food (eg nuts, raisins, dried fruit, chocolate, gels etc)
Refreshment stations:
There will be one refreshment station/check point which runners have to pass through: in the middle of both races. There will be water, coke, juice, bananas, oranges, biscuits and trail mix available at the refreshment stations. For environmental reasons, NO carry away water bottles will be provided at refreshment stations. Runners will need to fill up their reusable water bottles/hydration packs at the refreshment station from the water containers there. A strict stand and drink rule will apply for all other liquids – no cups may be carried away.
Course marking: The route will be minimally but adequately marked out with a mixture of red arrows and red and white tape. When on the E4 trail sections, follow the existing E4 markings, but some tape will be added when necessary at confusing sections. It is compulsory for ALL competitors to follow the official marked out race route and to pass through the official checkpoints,
A trail race is not like a road race with marshalls pointing you in the right direction every 100 metres, so you do need to keep your eyes open and your wits about you and keep looking for the course markings. If you do so, the course should be easy to follow.
Environmental policy: As trail runners we want to help look after the beautiful natural world we run in, so we aim to leave only our footprints behind. In fact, if possible we like to leave the trails cleaner than we found them. Runners may not drop any object of any kind on the trail during any of the races. If you have room to carry your gel, you have room to carry the empty gel packet as well!. Anything that really does need to be discarded can be put in a rubbish bag at the next refreshment station. Any runners found to have littered during any of the races will be disqualified.

Χωριό Φικάρδου
Τοποθεσία
Βρίσκεται κτισμένο σε νοτιοανατολική πλαγιά της οροσειράς Τρόοδος, σε απόσταση 40 περίπου χιλιομέτρων νοτιοδυτικά της Λευκωσίας. Το χωριό σήμερα έχει σχεδόν ερημώσει και σύμφωνα με την απογραφή του 2001 έχει 3 κατοίκους. Σε αυτό οδηγούν δύο δρόμοι, ένας από την Κλήρου και ο άλλος από το Καλό Χωριό Ορεινής. Σε κοντινή απόσταση βρίσκονται το επίσης παραδοσιακό χωριό Λαζανιάς και το Μοναστήρι της Παναγίας του Μαχαιρά.
Το χωριό αποτελεί ιδιοκτησία του Τμήματος Αρχαιοτήτων, το οποίο το 1978 κήρυξε ολόκληρο το χωριό σε «Αρχαίο Μνημείο» και «Ελεγχόμενη Περιοχή». Το χωριό έχει δηλωθεί από το Υπουργείο Συγκοινωνιών και Έργων ως υποψήφιο Μνημείο Παγκόσμιας Κληρονομιάς της UNESCO.[9]
Ιστορία
Το Φικάρδου καθώς και τα γύρω χωριά ιδρύθηκαν από κατοίκους των κατά καιρούς λεηλατημένων παράκτιων πόλεων, οι οποιοι αναγκάστηκαν να καταφύγουν στα βουνά για ασφάλεια[10] . Οι δυσμενείς συνθήκες διαβίωσης, αναπόφευκτα οδήγησε σε σχηματισμούς φατριών υιοθετώντας έτσι και το νόμο της μαχαίρας ως επίλυσης διαφορών. Η περιοχή, ελεγχόμενη από αυτή την αταξική κοινωνία έγινε γνωστή ως το βουνό και δάσος Μαχαίρα [11] Ένας καθοριστικός παράγοντας που βοήθησε τον πολλαπλασιασμό αυτών των φατριών σε κοινότητες, ήταν η ίδρυση της Ιεράς Μονής Παναγίας του Μαχαιρά .
Λόγω του ότι η τοποθεσία ήταν γνωστή ως τα λημέρια των φυγάδων [12] "φυγά Ανδρον" η κοινότητα κατέληξε να είναι γνωστή ως Φικάρδου. Αν και το χωριό δεν καταγράφεται να υπήρξε φέουδο κατά τη διάρκεια της Φραγκοκρατίας, ούτε και κατά τη διάρκεια της ενετικής περιόδου, ωστόσο κρατικοί ερευνητές ιστορίας ταυτίζουν το όνομα του χωριού με το όνομα ενός ενετού συμβολαιογράφου του Θωμά Φικάρδος, στα τέλη του 15ου αιώνα[13],[14]
Ο θρύλος
Φημολογείται ότι η συμμορία ενός Σίμωνα αφού δολοφόνησαν τον Ρήγα της Κύπρου, κρύφτηκαν στο Φικάρδου και στη συνέχεια διέφυγαν στο εξωτερικό. Εκεί έθαψαν και τον κλεμμένο θησαυρό, με το αίνιγμα ότι ο θησαυρός είναι κρυμμένος εκεί που η σκιά της βουνοκορφής δείχνει την 160η μέρα του χρόνου.
